Like I said in my previous post two of my favorite shows started up again last Thursday night, Burn Notice and Royal Pains.
Burn Noticed definitely delivered with none stop action from beginning to end. It was great the way they lead into the show with a montage of the previous season to catch us up and say good bye to some old villains before we get introduced to some new ones. The Micheal Weston character continues to be an interesting dichotomy of a burned spy who is not only great at what he does but also has a softer side for Mom, Fionia, his pal Sam and people in trouble that could use his help. Jeffrey Donovan (Michael) and Gabriell Donovan (Fionia) have a lot of chemistry and I love actress Sharon Glass who plays Michael’s mother a classic South Beach Florida type women who also happens to be the mother of an international spy. The cast has been well chosen. The characters and writers are keeping it both interesting and real which keeps us watching. I know I will keep checking in every Thursday to see how Michael and his pals make it through the latest job or dilemma.
Royal Pains started off on a much more scenic and serious note this season. The panoramic view of the Hamptons and all those bodacious estate homes is awesome. I like the characters and the story line which is fresh and different from all other “doctor” shows. Most of the comic relief is the straight man (Hank) funny man (Evan) act of the two brothers which is played off well, it does get the laughs. I also like the romantic tension that is being created between the polar opposites Evan & Divya and the intrigue of finding a cure for the mysterious disease that the gazillionaire who houses the brothers and the HankMed operation has. The show puts a new twist on the long ago forgotten practice of a doctor making house calls. The house calls to Estate Mansions in the exclusive Hamptons just make it all that more interesting. This first of the season show ended with a very pleasant surprise…the big reveal of Hank and Evan’s dubious father. The best part is who they cast to be this character…Henry Winkler ( the “Fonze”) from Happy Day’s for those who may remember that show or catch old reruns on TVLand. Couldn’t be a better choice and definitely will make the show even more fun to watch!
Well, that is my personal review on these shows..which is a subjective perspective so if you have never watched them you may want to check them out and see what you think. If you have been tuned into watching these two shows you may want to share your perspective.
